2018-2019 Golden Eagles Volleyball
Clarion University women's volleyball team recently began the 2018 season. My teammates and I are excited and are working hard to build and expand on the many great achievements of the student-athletes that came before us. We are extremely proud and humbled to have the opportunity to represent Clarion University, both on the court and in the classroom.
The team has its sights set on qualifying for the conference championship and making another trip to the NCAA National Tournament, under the leadership of head coach Jennifer Herron, who has the most wins in school history with 265.
As ambassadors of the university we have also taken a leadership role in the community by helping to raise money for Clarion Hospital Cancer Center, Relay for Life and the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department. In the past we have also participated in reading and crafting at the Clarion Community Learning Workshop and assisted with Clarion Special Olympics. As an athletic department we are active with collecting cans and non-perishables for a local food drive and raising money at Parents' Night Out for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Many of us have also served as leaders, providing mentorship and coaching for Clover Volleyball Club.
This year we scheduled three preseason tournaments to prepare for our conference schedule, which opened Sept. 14th. We have 13 non-conference matches, one scrimmage and one alumni scrimmage which we completed during the preseason. This season our schedule requires six overnight trips, including three pre-season tournaments at Ferris State University, The Tony Banner Memorial Tournament at Clarion University and the PSAC/MEC regional crossover in West Virginia. These trips require thousands of dollars to cover expenses such as bus transportation, meals and lodging. Our home matches require finances to cover referees and support staff. While the university has graciously provided us with a budget that covers the cost of our conference play, we do still need help to provide these athletes with opportunities to prepare and compete against regionally and nationally ranked opponents prior to conference action and again during our training season in the spring.
As the cost of college athletics continues to rise, to remain competitive we rely on the support of our families, friends and alumni. We kindly ask you to sponsor a player for one or more days.
Thank you for your continued support!
